In the past few months, we have seen some radical changes in laptops and they have grown faster, slimmer and smarter. But if you have basic usage like web browsing and text editing, you don’t need to spend over 50K on a laptop.
You can buy a decent budget laptop with decent spec for much less. It is good that manufacturers keep updating their low end models too so that you don’t end up buying something exactly low end for your money.
In the budget category, most laptops have more or less the same hardware for almost the same prices. There are a few things to look out for. The very first thing is built quality. In cutting costs, many manufacturers use cheap material and the laptops feel badly made.
The next thing is the display. While they might look like the same on paper, it is a very different story in the real world. Another important factor here is the operating system. Most of them get windows 7 or windows 8 preinstalled that is good as you won’t have to spend for the operating system later.
But if you are going to use Linux or the operating system provided by your firm, we would suggest that you pick something with DOS or Linux. We give you some decent budget laptops to suit you.
1. HP Pavilion G6-2301ax
This is one of the best budget laptops you can buy today. It is powered by an AMD A8 CPU running at 1.9 GHz. It has got 4GB of RAM and then there is the AMD Radeon HD 7640G/7670M Dual GPU.
It has a 15.6 inch display and 500 GB of hard drive. You also get windows 8 preinstalled on this machine. The performance is comparable to a decent machine running an Intel core i3.
The laptop is well built and the display is non-reflective to make the usage easy. It is a bit on the heavy side though and the touchpad is a bit uncomfortable to use.
2. Lenovo IdeaPad S300
This laptop is powered by an Intel Pentium Dual Core processor running at a clock speed of 1.5 GHz. It has been around for a while but still handles its processing jobs well.
You get 500 GB of storage and 2GB of RAM. It has got a superb 13.3 inch display for the price and the laptop is very well built overall. It is slim and light & you get windows 8 preinstalled on this.
3. Dell Inspiron 15
Another laptop running an Intel Pentium Dual Core. This one runs at a clock speed of 1.8 GHz, has got 2 GB of RAM and 500 GB of storage. The display is quite big at 15.6 inches which makes it slightly bulky.
This laptop hasn’t got anything special going on with it and you can pick similar spec in other brands for even less. But still, if you want a Dell, here is the laptop for you.
4. Samsung NP355E5C-
This Samsung laptop is powered by the AMD Dual core E2 processor running at a clock speed of 1.7 GHz. Like most other budget laptops, you get just 2 GB of RAM and the storage sits at just 320 GB.
It has a 15.6 inch display like the Dell. You get Windows 8 preinstalled. It is really a good laptop for basic everyday usage and it is well built so it won’t start falling apart early.
Laptops running the AMD APU are less power hungry and thus this machine would run longer on a single charge as compared to the Intel counterparts.
5. HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14
This laptop is powered by the AMD Dual core E1 processor at a clock speed of 1.4 GHz. It has got 2 GB of RAM and 500 GB of HDD. At 14 inches, the display is just the perfect size for a laptop. They haven’t cut costs on built quality. It is quite light and this would make it easier to carry.
This keyboard has got an excellent keyboard so if you are going to type long documents on your laptop, this one can be a good buy.
6. Acer Gateway NE56R
Acer has got some really potent laptops in their lineup and most of the times; they serve you with more for your money. This laptop is sleek and is priced very well. It runs a Pentium Dual Core processor. The RAM on this laptop is just 2 GB and it has got 500 GB of HDD.
This laptop has got a good battery life so you won’t run in trouble while travelling. The build quality is decent and the hinges feel sturdy enough to last long.
7. HCL AE1V3282I-
This is another good laptop for its price and offers you good performance. It comes with a core i3 2310M processor which is quite good. You get 2 GB of RAM and 320 GB of storage. It has got a 14 inch display. The graphics are handled by onboard Intel HD Graphics 3000.
Though it comes with DOS preinstalled on it while others are selling laptops with windows preinstalled. You would have to spend a few thousands extra if you need windows or if you are comfortable with it, you can install some Linux distro like Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Linux would be good enough to handle all your multimedia, web browsing and freeware office tools.
8. Sony Vaio E14133
Yes you can get even an E series Sony Vaio for a low price. This is another 14 inch laptop running an Intel Core i3 third gen processor at a clock speed of 2.5 GHz. It gets 2 GB of RAM which can be upgraded up to 8GB and 500 GB of storage.
The design is typically Sony with the large Vaio logo on it. While it is like the HCL laptop mentioned above, the extra price goes for the Windows 8 operating system you get preinstalled.
